Request a Guide/Tutorial. What documentation do you want to see?

Post by rssfed23 »

The Mayan EDMS team is always looking for ways we can improve the official documentation, ideas on what tutorials we should have in the guides section and what topics should be covered in the book.

Reply to this post to suggest a Guide or Tutorial be made.

We of course can't guarantee a topic will be covered, but getting an idea of the general themes people are interested in will help us focus or content creation on areas of the most interest to users.

Note: Even if something is suggested here, the resulting information/tutorial produced may not necessarily end up in the guides forum and could land in the official documentation or the Exploring Mayan EDMS book either.
Community contributed guides/tutorials will never be moved to the Official Documentation or Exploring Mayan EDMS Book without prior consultation and explicit consent.
Please bear with us during the current global situation. The team all have families and local communities to look after as well as the community here. Responses may be delayed during this time, but rest assured we will get to your query eventually.

I would like to see guide related to how to use it for home use. Not all of us use Mayan at enterprise level. The other post you explained a bit how you use it for your home data was really helpful, specially the screen capture.

You can address small use case: like bills (phone, electricity, gas, ...) will be address with an unique use case, kids grades, medical data, ...

Smart Links. I think they can be useful for both enterprise and home use, but I haven't been able to create one successfully. If I understand correctly, I could have a bank statement for a particular month (both the account and date assigned using metadata) to link to the same account statement for previous/next months. Or links to "all other documents uploaded on this date", "other documents that share similar metadata".

You're exactly right there that's the purpose of smart links. As long as you have a metadata field so you can link the bank "company" or "account" together in some way (this could also be by having all statements in one document type or tag)then you can create such a link. Smart links are something I'm still implementing myself so I'll see if I can get something whipped up this weekend as a basic primer. Thanks for the suggestion :)!

I have been using MayanEDMS for about 6 months now to store home documents. I want to thank all members of the development team for such a great piece of software! I've long waited for something so capable.

A guide/tutorial I'd like to see written up is how to backup and restore the postgresql database when using the standard docker compose method.
On previous versions of MayanEDMS (before docker-compose) I've had success by stopping the container, copying the database volume across to its new location and starting a new database container. This hasn't worked for me since docker-compose was introduced.
I understand that performing an SQL dump is the best method, but am at a loss as how to run that on my home system.

Help gratefully received.

Hi,

I would like a guild how to setup/set the correct configuration settings for Mayan EDMS to run under Apache via mod_wsgi.

I would like to reach Mayan EDMS in the following way:

https://www.mydomain.com/sources

I am already using Let's Encrypt on the server and run an other python applications pgadmin4 successfully so I only need Mayan to be served through the virtual host and not via the standard port 8000 via gunicorn.

(I presume I have to disable gunicorn from starting in the first place?)

If I currently go to https://www.mydomain.com/sources I get currently "Bad Request (400)"
If I currently go to http://www.mydomain.com:8000 the application works...

what I already have setup in my apache virtual conf file the following way:

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName www.mydomain.com
ServerAlias *.mydomain.com mydomain.com
ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error.mydomain.com.log
Redirect permanent / https://www.mydomain.com/
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost *:443>
# Let's encrypt for anything behind www.mydomain.com
SSLCertificateFile /etc/letsencrypt/live/www.mydomain.com/fullchain.pem
SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/letsencrypt/live/www.mydomain.com/privkey.pem
Include /etc/letsencrypt/options-ssl-apache.conf

ServerName www.mydomain.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/mydomain.com/htdocs
ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error.mydomain.com.log

I'd love to get more info on how to read debug logs/etc for troubleshooting.

See also abockhold's thread at viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2323 (I replied to his thread because I'm also having a hard time trying to figure out how to access log files / information).

Thanks in advance if you do something on these lines! I'd be happy to help write something up if I can figure it out myself :-)
