Establish smart link between email attachments and email body

Post by jeverling » Fri Jun 21, 2019 8:37 am

If an email source is configured to store the email body, as far as I'm aware there is no proper way currently to match the email body to the document[s] from the email (apart from date_added).
Maybe it would be possible to optionally create smart links from the body text document to the documents that were created from the attachments (might have been a zip that was unpacked), and vice versa from the attachments to the relevant body text document?
What do you think? I can imagine cases where it would be useful to review the body text of an email when looking at a document - this would make it easier to find the relevant body text document.

Maybe this could be done with a metadata type like for subject and sender - and the value would just be a UUID that could then be used to link the documents that were created from attachments together, including the text body.

We've been discussing adding support for manual links between documents. The UI is still in flux about this. It will be a window for a document where you enter the ID of the foreign document. Another approach is to support a clipboard feature where you add documents to it and they persist as you navigate along the UI, then you paste the ID of the document in the manual link view. Adding manual linking we could then add a checkbox to the sources to keep all documents uploaded from a zip file or from the same email linked. Makes sense?

Absolutely, this sounds great! Especially the clipboard to link multiple documents at once.
