Feature Request: bibtex and doi support

Post by killroy » Mon Oct 22, 2018 2:29 pm

Hello,

I wanted to request/inquire if there were plans to adapt Mayan EDMS to be a tool for researchers to manage their research collections. This seems like a great piece software for this use case.

One way to develop this would be to add doi and other citation engines to and and/or update metadata for specific documents. An example of a system implementing this is org-ref in emacs.

Another feature request would be to have metadata or an engine generate bibtex / biblatex citations and/or .bib files.

Finally, would there be plans for adding specific notes to pdf files as well

Thanks!

Sound interesting but we would need some links and reference material to understand this better. Can you provide links to some introductory material you understand is of good quality?

I don't know if this helps but we added a new app that will be available in the next version called WebLinks. It allows generating link from documents to external resources using a template. The example attached creates a link from documents to the U.S. National Library of Medicine
National Center for Biotechnology Information to display cheminal safety information. Example for Copper: https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/23978. The document metadata would only store the number of the PubChem entry, in this case 23978 and the web link templates fills the rest. Would this work for citations as it stands?

Reading up in emacs org-refs, it seems this is reliant on a specific text markup. Correct? Are the references external (example HTTP), internal to another part of the document or to other documents in the same repository?
